Soka Gakkai President Minoru Harada’s Editorial: “Toward a Beautiful Realm of Human Harmony”
In his editorial in the October issue of Daibyakurenge, the Soka Gakkai monthly study journal, Soka Gakkai President Minoru Harada writes about Ikeda Sensei’s commitment to create a peaceful world:
It was President Ikeda who made Nichiren Daishonin’s solemn mandate for the worldwide spread of the Mystic Law a reality.
In October 1961, he made his first visit to Europe. With only a handful of members there at the time, he chanted fervently, seeking to permeate the very land with daimoku, and wholeheartedly encouraged the few fellow members he met.
On October 8, he visited the Berlin Wall, a symbol of the Cold War division between East and West, declaring: “I am sure that in 30 years this Berlin Wall will no longer stand.” His words were neither a mere prediction nor simply a hope: They expressed his firm conviction that people could come together as one, as well as his resolve to forge an ever-growing solidarity for peace.
Determined to open the way to a brighter future, President Ikeda continued to travel around the world. He engaged in dialogue with national leaders from both the Eastern and Western blocs, fostering friendship and advancing a philosophy of humanism. In 1989, the Berlin Wall finally fell, bringing the Cold War to an end. In the years that followed, he continued his diplomatic efforts as a private citizen, meeting with Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev and Richard von Weizsäcker, the first president of the newly unified Germany, among many others.
Today, our growing network of Bodhisattvas of the Earth extends throughout Europe. With the resounding call “One Europe with Sensei!” members are actively contributing to their communities and societies as they strive to build an ideal realm of human harmony.

SGI Canada Youth attend SGI Youth Training Course
Four SGI Canada practitioners were part of the SGI Youth Training Course in Tokyo in September. Highlights of the trip included a gongyo session at the Hall of the Great Vow and the Soka Youth General Meeting. Participants also attended guidance and Question & Answer sessions with many senior leaders, including Soka Gakkai Senior Vice President Hiromasa Ikeda, Soka Gakkai Youth Division leader Mr. Nishikata, and SGI General Director Mr. Tanigawa.

Dialogue and Daimoku Campaign
So far this year, we’ve held over 12,300 Buddhist dialogues and chanted almost 210,000 hours of daimoku.
Don’t forget to record your Buddhist dialogues and your hours of daimoku! Whenever we talk about Buddhism or about SGI with someone who is not an SGI member, we can register that dialogue online. In the same way, whenever we have completed an hour or more of daimoku, we can record the number of hours online.

Have you registered?
Registrations are now open for the SGI Canada introductory exam on October 25. The exam is open to all members and interested friends who have not yet taken an SGI Canada study exam, and to those who have not yet passed the Introductory Exam. The Introductory Exam will be available in English, French and Chinese. Please see the June issue of New Century, Ère Nouvelle and Chinese New Century for more information.
The Introductory Exam will be based on The Basics of Nichiren Buddhism for the New Era of Worldwide Kosen-rufu, Chapters 1, 2, 3, 8, 9 and 10.
The study material is available in English, French and Chinese as a free PDF file, with key passages highlighted to aid your study. The PDF files are available now from SGI Canada district leaders, and from all other SGI Canada leaders.
To register for the Introductory Exam, you can use the QR code that appears in the published announcement, or through the SGI Canada website.
