Encouragement
SGI President Ikeda’s encouragement for the Young Phoenix Group: “Chanting Nam-myoho-renge-kyo Enables You to Strive Wholeheartedly”
In the following guidance, published in the February 1, 2026 issue of the Mirai [Future] Journal, the Soka Gakkai monthly newspaper for the junior high and high school division, President Ikeda explains the relationship between effort and chanting Nam-myoho-renge-kyo, underscoring the purpose of our Buddhist practice.
If you keep chanting earnestly, everything is certain to move in a positive direction.
Prayer in Nichiren Buddhism is a vow. It is a resolute pledge to realize your wish or goal without fail. When you solidify your resolve, you’re able to strive wholeheartedly. And because of your efforts, you can become the kind of person who can make their prayers come true. Buddhism, above all, is reason. It is not some mysterious, magical power.
Another purpose of your Buddhist practice is to achieve your human revolution. If all your wishes came true immediately, you might think that things will work out somehow, even if you don’t make any effort. Then, you would never really grow as a person.
If you chant and make efforts, your deepest desires are sure to be fulfilled. Those who chant strong and consistent daimoku will ultimately experience a victorious youth and triumphant life, greater than any they ever imagined. Therefore, please don’t allow yourself to be defeated by momentary sadness or suffering because something didn’t go the way you’d hoped. Don’t be impatient.
Life is filled with all sorts of challenges and difficulties, including illness, financial hardship, and relationship problems. But when we continue to chant Nam-myoho-renge-kyo, we can transform every struggle into a wonderful story of happiness and victory. The day will definitely come when you can look back and say: “That hardship made me who I am today.” That’s what our Buddhist practice is for.
I hope all of you, my young friends, will set big future goals for yourselves and keep chanting to realize them, while also taking action in that direction. I will join with you in chanting for this each day.

Women’s Group General Meetings - “Everything Starts with One Person”
(Photo by Annette Meredith | Unsplash) Women’s Group General Meetings are being held throughout April and May by district and in small groups. This will encourage heart-to-heart dialogue for the purpose of introducing our Buddhist practice, and for mutual encouragement.
The theme of the meetings will be "Everything starts with one person.” During his visit to Canada in October 2025, SGI General Director Yoshiki Tanigawa quoted SGI President Ikeda’s words:
Everything starts with one person. That one person teaches others about the Mystic Law, the ultimate teaching for happiness; fosters people of courageous faith who can surpass them; and sets in motion a growing network of capable individuals. This is the principle of “emerging from the earth” (WND-1, 385), which describes the process by which the Bodhisattvas of the Earth make their appearance.[1]

Dialogue and Daimoku Campaign
So far this year, we’ve held almost 3,800 Buddhist dialogues and chanted over 38,000 hours of daimoku.
Don’t forget to record your Buddhist dialogues and your hours of daimoku!
Whenever we talk about Buddhism or about SGI with someone who is not an SGI member, we can register that dialogue online. In the same way, whenever we have completed an hour or more of daimoku, we can record the number of hours online.
You can record your dialogues and daimoku by clicking on this button:
If you are having trouble logging in, you can ask someone else in your district to enter the information for you.
SGI Canada is keeping track of the total number of dialogues and hours of daimoku. You can see how many dialogues and how much chanting has been done so far, across the entire country by clicking on this button:
