Soka Gakkai President Minoru Harada’s Editorial: “Illuminating and Manifesting Our True Nature on the Stage of Our Mission”
In his editorial in the October issue of Daibyakurenge, the Soka Gakkai monthly study journal, Soka Gakkai President Minoru Harada reminds us that kosen-rufu is founded on the mentor-disciple relationship:
Life is a grand drama and each of us is the protagonist, striving to fulfil our great mission of worldwide kosen-rufu.
President Daisaku Ikeda lived as a true protagonist, embodying the noble spirit of the mentor-disciple relationship to the highest degree. When he took his first step on the path of worldwide kosen-rufu on October 2, 1960, he carried in the inner pocket of his suit jacket a photo of his mentor, second Soka Gakkai president Josei Toda, while Toda’s final words—“The world is your true stage”—resounded in his heart. At the very core of this great human drama was the shared struggle of mentor and disciple.
The expansion of kosen-rufu in every country and community has always begun with one courageous individual—someone who stood up alone with the vow, “together with my mentor.” Nichiren Daishonin described the start of his own great struggle as “the single speck of dust that marks the beginning of Mount Sumeru or the single drop of dew that spells the start of the great ocean” (WND-1, 672). In that same spirit, our fellow members throughout the world have become such “single specks of dust” and “single drops of dew”—protagonists of kosen-rufu who have boldly opened new paths. Their shared struggle is a “wonderful story [that will endure into the future]” (WND-1, 499).
You’ll find the complete editorial in the November issue of New Century.

President Harada Issues Statement on Creating a World Without War
On August 1 2025, Soka Gakkai President Minoru Harada issued a statement marking 80 years since the end of World War II, titled “Creating a Wave of Change Toward a Century Without War”.
President Harada’s statement is grounded in the determination that no one on this planet should have to endure the horrors of war. He stresses that concern for the suffering of innocent civilians underpins the Soka Gakkai’s commitment to peace.

Upcoming events
October 5 - SGI Canada Day Commemorative Meetings
On October 5, we will be celebrating the 65th anniversary of Ikeda Sensei’s first visit to Canada. Kosen-rufu in Canada began with President Ikeda’s arrival in Toronto in October 1960 and his meeting with Elizabeth Akiko Izumi, who was not a Soka Gakkai member at the time. At commemorative meetings and other special events across the country, we will mark this anniversary by showing how much Canadian members continue to grow and flourish with Sensei’s guidance and vision in their hearts.
In “A Rainbow over Niagara”, President Ikeda writes:
I hope you’ll spend each day
Arousing trust and confidence in everyone.
Steadiness will prove superior to undue haste;
However inconspicuous,
Each sure step
Constructs a firm foundation for the future.[1]
