University of Manitoba Displays Nuclear Abolition Exhibition

MARCH 22, 2019 — Robson Hall is hosting the exhibition “Everything You Treasure – For a World Free From Nuclear Weapons” beginning  Thursday, March 28 until Friday, April 5, 2019, located on the Main Floor. Additionally, Dr. Jonathan Black-Branch, Dean of Law, will give a talk related to the display on Tuesday, April 2nd at 12 noon in Robson Hall’s Moot Courtroom B. The talk is titled “Security, Defence and the Threat of Nuclear Weapons: The Future of Human Rights and Security.”

Dr. Black-Branch was appointed Dean of Law at Robson Hall, Faculty of Law, at the University of Manitoba in 2016. He has worked in a variety of countries including the United Kingdom, Denmark and Switzerland. He serves as Chairman of the International Law Association Committee on Nuclear Weapons, Non-proliferation and Contemporary International Law and has convened five Round Table Forums and research conferences on Nuclear Non-Proliferation in International Law and is founding President of The International Society of Law and Nuclear Diplomacy and Disarmament. He is the co-editor of the refereed journal series on Nuclear Non-Proliferation in International Law published by Asser Press.

The “Everything You Treasure” exhibition was jointly created by Soka Gakkai International (SGI) and the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN). Launched in Hiroshima in August 2012 at the 20th World Congress of the International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War (IPPNW), the exhibition commemorates the 55th anniversary of the second Soka Gakkai president Josei Toda’s September 8, 1957, Declaration Calling for the Abolition of Nuclear Weapons.
