Welcome to the fifteenth issue of the SGI Canada Newsletter, a bi-weekly summary of news, upcoming events and encouragement. The SGI Canada Newsletter replaces the previous SGI Canada Online News. All subscribers will automatically receive the SGI Canada Newsletter from now on. If you are not subscribing, you may do so by clicking on the button below. District General Meetings Commemorate the 90th Anniversary of the Soka Gakkai
Through the month of November, the annual District General Meetings were held in more than 220 districts across Canada to commemorate November 18, the 90th anniversary of the founding of the Soka Gakkai. This year, because of the pandemic, the meetings were held online. SGI President Ikeda’s message to the 47th Soka Gakkai Headquarters Leaders Meeting was read, inspiring everyone to bring forth the “vast heart of Soka” [Read more]. Members and friends shared their personal experiences of their Buddhist practice—their struggles and courage in overcoming adversity, the wisdom, compassion and joy they have developed, and their determinations toward 2021. Congratulations on the great success of this year’s District General Meetings! Let’s carry that joy and enthusiasm into the Year of Hope and Victory, and make 2021 the best year ever for our districts.
Contributions to SGI Canada Kosen-rufu Fund
SGI Canada members can make contributions to the SGI Canada Kosen-rufu Fund at any time, by mail to SGI Canada at 2050 Dufferin Street, Toronto ON M6E 3R6, or through our new Members’ Online Portal.
SGI Canada Members’ Online Portal
SGI Canada members now have access to an online portal in which they can create their own personal SGI Canada accounts and make secure online donations by credit card.
In Phase 1 of this initiative, members can also read English publications to which they subscribe, and access their tax receipts and personal information online. In the second phase, to be introduced in 2021, additional features will become available.
Please note that the online versions of New Century, Soka and From Today Onward are available as an extra feature for subscribers to the print versions of these magazines. There is no online-only option available at this time. The online versions are formatted for smartphones, tablets and computers, and are not downloadable. Online versions of Ère nouvelle and Chinese New Century will become available to subscribers in the future.
How to set up your online account:
- Go to the SGI Canada website at sgicanada.org and click on the Online Portal button near the top right corner of your screen.
- Click on I have not created an online account and then Submit
- Fill out the personal information fields and click on Submit
- You will receive an email from email@example.com . The email will confirm your username and password (which you can change once you log into the site the first time). For assistance with setting up your account, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org .
- Once your username and password have been confirmed, you will be able to log into the online portal from the SGI Canada website at any time.
Many SGI Canada members have already registered. We hope you will also take advantage of this convenient method of making online donations, receiving online versions of SGI Canada publications, and other features to be added in the coming months!
Subscribe to “To My Friends” and “Daily Selection from The Writings of Nichiren Daishonin
“To My Friends” is a short passage of President Ikeda’s guidance that appears in the Seikyo Shimbun newspaper every day. “Daily Selection from The Writings of Nichiren Daishonin” is a daily excerpt from Nichiren Daishonin’s writings. You can subscribe for free to the English and French versions of these services by following the link at the bottom of the home page of www.sgicanada.org
Please note that once you have registered and clicked on “Sign Up”, you will receive an email message from email@example.com. If you do not receive the message immediately, please check the Junk Mail folder in your email. The email will ask you to confirm your subscription by clicking on a link. Once you have clicked on the link, “To My Friends” and “Daily Selection from the Writings of Nichiren Daishonin” will be delivered to your mailbox every day. Please note that your subscription cannot begin until you have clicked on the link in the email from firstname.lastname@example.org.
Feel free to invite fellow members and friends to sign up individually in the same way. If you simply forward “To My Friends” or “Daily Selection from the Writings of Nichiren Daishonin” to others, you may bei unsubscribed if one of those people tries to unsubscribe. If you lose your daily subscription, you can simply re-register, following the same instructions.
Soka Gakkai Global Website
Many SGI members and friends in Canada and around the world are discovering the wonderful resources available at the new Soka Gakkai Global website www.sokaglobal.org. The site features:
- Content in English, Spanish and Chinese
- Regular news stories from around the world
- Guidance, encouragement and introductory videos
- Study material (including volume 30 of The New Human Revolution, and Part 1 of The Wisdom for Creating Happiness and Peace)
Youth Festival Videos Still Available!
All seven of October’s very successful SGI Canada Youth Festivals are still available for viewing online. You can watch your own region's festival, or any other festival if you wish. We ask that you not share the links on any social media platforms, as we would like to ensure that only members and guests have access.
The links have been distributed to local district leaders. Each video is approximately one hour long. We hope you enjoy!
Young Phoenix Group Meeting December 20
The Young Phoenix Group (for members and friends 13 - 17 years old) will be holding its monthly online meeting on December 20 at 4:00pm Eastern Time. Please consult your local youth leaders for the link.
