 ENCOURAGEMENT

SGI President Daisaku Ikeda’s message: “Win through the Shared Spirit of Mentor and Disciple”

In his message to the Nationwide Young Men’s Division Leaders Meeting, held at the Toda Memorial Auditorium in Tokyo, on October 2, 2022, SGI President Ikeda encourages us to continue to talk to everyone around us:

On October 2, 1960, I embarked on my first overseas trip, my mentor Josei Toda’s photograph tucked in my breast pocket. While engaging in constant dialogue with my mentor, I called forth and brought together one youthful Bodhisattva of the Earth after another. Today, you are the vanguard of the youthful Bodhisattvas of the Earth worldwide who are following in their footsteps.

The Daishonin declared: “At first only Nichiren chanted Nam-myoho-renge-kyo, but then two, three, and a hundred followed, chanting and teaching others. Propagation will unfold this way in the future as well. Does this not signify ‘emerging from the earth’?” (WND-1, 385).

People with whom you share a profound karmic connection, who are ready to “spring from the earth,”[1] are waiting for you to talk with them. They are waiting to hear your confident voices. I call on you now to joyously and magnificently demonstrate the principle of “emerging from the earth” (WND-1, 385), for the happiness of others, a harmonious society, and a peaceful world!

[1] Line from an impromptu poem composed by President Ikeda on August 14, 1947, when he first met Josei Toda.

The entire message will be published in the January edition of New Century.

Going paperless with your official income tax receipt

You now have two options for obtaining the official income tax receipt for your donations to SGI Canada:

  1. SGI Canada can mail the receipt to you
  2. You can go paperless and download the receipt yourself from the SGI Canada website

Choosing to download the receipt yourself will allow SGI Canada to reduce its use of paper and devote more resources to activities for members. Once you choose to go paperless, you will no longer receive a receipt in the mail from SGI Canada.

In order to go paperless and download the receipt yourself:

You can change the way in which you receive your income tax receipt at any time between March 16 and December 30 each year.

Your tax receipt for 2022 will be available online by February 28, 2023.
