ARGENTINA: On March 8, the Women, Gender and Diversity department of Río Grande in Tierra del Fuego conferred an award upon SGI President Ikeda and Mrs. Ikeda. On the same day, the City Council of Rosario near Buenos Aires bestowed an award upon Mrs. Ikeda. Both honors recognize SGI President Ikeda and Mrs. Ikeda’s promotion of a culture of peace.

Tokyo, JAPAN: On April 30, the Soka Gakkai Peace Committee held an online screening of the documentary film “Sonita,” about a young Afghan refugee in Iran. On May 2, it was announced in Seikyo Shimbun that Soka Gakkai has donated five million yen (US$47,085) to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Tokyo, JAPAN: On May 3, in commemoration of Soka Gakkai Day, Soka Gakkai Mothers Day and the 60th anniversary of his inauguration as third Soka Gakkai president, SGI President Ikeda contributed a commemorative message and three waka poems, all published in the Seikyo Shimbun. A congratulatory message from Soka Gakkai President Minoru Harada was also published.

JAPAN: On May 3, the Soka Gakkai Youth division in Japan released  the final version of the song from its participatory songwriting project. The song, “Step Forward,” together with a music video, is now available on the official SOKA net YouTube account.

Denver and Phoenix, USA: On May 3, the cities of Denver and Phoenix both proclaimed May 3, 2020, as Daisaku Ikeda Day, in recognition of President Ikeda’s contributions to peace, culture and education.
