We are pleased to announce that a new video “Daisaku Ikeda: Life and Philosophy—The Power of Encouragement,” introducing President Ikeda as a champion of encouragement, is now available on the Daisaku Ikeda website. It is currently available in English with Japanese, Spanish, Chinese (traditional and simplified), French, Indonesian, Thai, Portuguese, Italian and Korean subtitles. Seikyo Shimbun – Highlights

ITALY: From June 15 to 21, the Women’s Division and Young Women’s Division of Soka Gakkai Italy held online general meetings. More than 35,000 members participated across the country.

IRELAND: On June 20, the Women’s Division and Young Women’s Division of SGI Ireland held their general meeting online. During this meeting, two powerful faith experiences were shared.

ONLINE: On June 28 and 29, SGI joined the Earth Charter 20th Anniversary Forum, hosted online by the Earth Charter International. In her opening words, Executive Director of the Earth Charter International Secretariat Mirian Vilela thanked all supporting organizations including the SGI.

SINGAPORE: On July 3 and 4, Singapore Soka Association (SSA) held its general meeting online via live broadcast. More than 6,000 members participated and listened to activity reports related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

EUROPE: On July 4, the annual SGI-Europe Summit was held online, with 220 participants from 36 countries. SGI Women’s Leader Yumiko Kasanuki joined the meeting together with SGI-Europe Chair Hideaki Takahashi and Women’s Division Leader Suzanne Pritchard. Members shared faith experiences and sang “The Song of Human Revolution.”

ONLINE: On July 7, the Asia Pacific Faith-based Coalition (APFC), consisting of five organizations including SGI, organized an online side event at the UN High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development. UN and NGO representatives and academics discussed the role of faith-based organizations in promoting the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals).

Kyushu, JAPAN: In response to continued torrential rainfall and widespread flooding on the southern island of Kyushu, affected members received support and encouragement from Soka Gakkai’s local emergency centers. Local leaders visited and encouraged affected members in Fukuoka, Kumamoto and Oita Prefectures on July 9, 10 and 12 respectively. Youth division volunteers are engaged in clean-up activities.

JAPAN: On July 10, community centers began scheduled screenings of a video commemorating the 60th anniversary of Daisaku Ikeda's inauguration as third Soka Gakkai President. Members must wear masks and observe strict social distancing. The video features the inauguration ceremony and includes footage and voice recordings shared publicly for the first time. A translation of the video will be sent to each country in respective languages by the SGI Coordination Liaison Office.

ONLINE: On July 11, SGI participated in an online symposium on killer robots hosted by the Campaign to Stop Killer Robots and the Japanese student-led organization S.A.L.

ONLINE: On July 14, Seikyo Shimbun announced that SGI launched the “Shift to Green” photo & video contest in collaboration with Earth Charter International, Greenpeace Japan and Japan Youth Platform for Sustainability. The contest is open to anyone to submit their photos, videos, artwork, music, poems or drama that demonstrate their hope for the future for humanity and the Earth. Read more here.

ARGENTINA: On July 15, General Director of SGI-Argentina Oscar Fernández gave an interview in Seikyo Shimbun about the organization’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Since March 13, meetings and home visits have been canceled and all centers closed. The organization donated preserved food and cleaning supplies to more than seven municipalities and donated 10,000 masks to Cañuelas Partido in Buenos Aires where the Daisaku Ikeda Youth Culture Center is located. The organization is holding online seminars every month to introduce Nichiren Buddhism to non-members. More than 16,000 people have joined these seminars so far. Some 22,000 members watched the video commemorating the 60th anniversary of the inauguration of Daisaku Ikeda as third Soka Gakkai president.
